We opened our psychology practice here at 236 River Street, Kempsey in October 2015. Through our website and newsletter we will be letting you know what has been happening here at our practice as well as providing further information that may be of interest to health professionals and service providers. Michael Hawes – Psychologist
Michael provides direct client-focused psychology services under Medicare, ATAPS, DVA, Victims Services, NDIS and Work Cover (NSW) systems. Private treatment services are also offered, with HICAPS facilities onsite. He is an experienced and trained psychotherapist with clients which include children (5+), adolescents, and adults.
Michael is skilled in the use of specific psychological interventions such as: Psychometric Assessment and Evaluation, Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Imagery Rescripting & Reprocessing Therapy (Sexual Abuse and Trauma), Clinical diagnosis, assessment & management of Eating Disorders and Emotional Focussed Couple’s Therapy.
Michael will continue to develop his skills and knowledge in the many facets of psychology and will keep you updated as time goes by.
Gary Buckley – Psychologist
Gary has been a practicing psychologist since 2004 working exclusively on the Mid North Coast from Wauchope/Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour. He commenced training as a psychologist in 1997. Previously he worked as a contractor in the building industry for many years in the Macleay and Nambucca Valleys having trained in Sydney.
Gary has worked at Kempsey Community Mental Health both in Adult Mental Health and Youth and Family Mental Health. He has also worked in the Kempsey/Wauchope areas in private practice throughout his time as a registered psychologist treating youth to adults across a broad variety of mental health and stress related issues. He has most recently been working at Coffs Hospital in the none acute Mental Health Rehab Facility, treating adults with complex trauma and/or chronic mental health issues.
He has an interest in Asperger’s Disorder and has provided support to parents and children on the spectrum during his years as a registered psychologist.
He tends to use an integrated model of counselling support. This is informed by the following therapeutic approaches: Psycho-education, Skills and assertiveness training, Stress reduction and skills building, Rogerian based counselling (Person Centred), Building the Self and developing personal power, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Focused Therapy, Neuropsychotherapy (neuroscience informed), Behaviour based modification, Graduated exposure therapy, Relaxation/distraction training, Integration of Rogerian, Psychodynamic/psychoanalytic principles. (Using primarily the “conversational model” and neuroscience for longer term therapy).
Kelly Wheeldon – Office Manager
Kelly works in the office at In-Psychology. Kelly brings with her many years of experience in the management of a psychology practice.
As the first point of contact, Kelly is available to make appointments and discuss any enquiries that you might have while Michael is in session with clients.
Kelly will be further developing her skills and knowledge in assisting clients within the psychology practice. She sees this as an important part of her role in liaising with clients and other health professionals.
